Nassim Naturals Review AND Giveaway!

One thing that I absolutely love is finding new, innovative, fabulous baby and toddler products.  I also love having the opportunity to try these new products, share them and give them away (my favorite).  Like many of you, I prefer to use organic and natural products whenever possible, especially when choosing baby care/toiletry products for my two little ones.  And as you may know by now, I cloth diaper my youngest, so any diaper cream/ointment that I use for him has to be cloth diaper safe.  That said, I love trying new cloth diaper products and accessories!  So, I'm happy to be sharing some products from Nassim Naturals with you today!

Nassim Naturals has a line of products perfect for momma, baby and the entire family.  Their line includes lotions, shower gels, massage oils and balms.  Here's a little background about Nassim Naturals for you...

The creator of Nassim Naturals grew up in Togo, West Africa and when upon moving to North America, she developed skin problems and would have adverse reactions to many different skincare products.   She went to doctors and tried almost everything: creams, ointments, lotions and nothing worked nor gave her relief.  Nassim's background and passion educated her enough to know that there were too many toxins in the products she was using, so she decided to launch her own research program to study the chemicals in mainstream products and to learn about their effects.  Her sensitivities to many products became clear as she continued on a journey of discovery into the world of botanical science.   She attended workshops and seminars in herbology, aromatology and aromacosmetology which confirmed her belief in the need for high quality pure ingredients in the creation of skincare that is ethical, and sustainable.  Nassim Naturals believes that nature’s laboratory has everything necessary to support healthy skin, and thus, Nassim Naturals was born.  Nassim's passion and drive created a wonderful company that loves and enjoys creating natural products without additives, chemicals, or artificial scents.

When Nassim Naturals contacted me about trying some of their products, I was super excited.  Nassim Naturals sent me three products to try: Ouchie Diaper Balm, Baby Body Lotion and Yummilicious Cocoa Lip Balm.  First of all, the product design and packaging are just adorable.  I love the baby animals on the baby product packaging.  My toddler loves animals and enjoys trips to our local zoo.  So, at diaper changes, my toddler would always make a "growling" sound when he would see the rhino on the Ouchie Diaper Balm container.  My toddler also thinks that giraffes "growl " (not sure where he got that from), so after bath time when I would apply Nassim's Baby Body Lotion, he would growl, too.  Toddlers are so funny sometimes!

So, the first product that I tried was the Ouchie Diaper Balm.  I have a few favorite diaper ointments that are in my arsenal of diaper creams/balms/ointments, and The Ouchie Diaper Balm quickly joined the ranks with those favorites.  The Ouchie Diaper Balm comes in a circular container and is approximately 2 fl. oz./60 ml.  It's also cloth diaper safe.  I didn't have any issues with repelling or staining with any of my cloth diapers.  I primarily use bumGenius cloth diapers, but also have a few GroVia, FuzziBunz and GoGreen Diapers in my stash.  The first thing that I noticed is the wonderfully smooth texture of the balm.  It glides on quite nicely.  Also, a little bit of this balm goes a long way!  I used The Ouchie Diaper Balm on both of my little ones.  My oldest is potty training/learning and uses a Flip Trainer, but wears disposables, too.  My youngest is cloth diapered.  I still have a little of the The Ouchie Diaper Balm left, but my husband used a little too much of it when he would change diapers.  I know this because of the huge finger print swipe I would see in the container.  Fact is, our balm probably would have lasted longer had my husband not used so much!  So, word to the wise, please remember that a little does go a long way and you really do get a lot of "bang for your buck."  Secondly, the smell is pleasant and I love the natural chamomile, lavender and myrrh.  I also really like how compact the container is and how conveniently it can fit in a diaper bag!

The second product that I tried was Nassim's Baby Body Lotion.  The lotion has a nice, thick texture and like the Ouchie Diaper Balm, goes on smoothly.  It left my toddlers' skin feeling moist and soft, and I applied it liberally after their bath time.  Nassim's Baby Body Lotion has a soft, herbal scent.  It's a pleasant aroma.  I wish, though, that the lotion had a little sweeter, stronger scent.  I understand that this is mostly personal preference.  I'm sure it's a complicated, fine balance formulating a scent that will be pleasing for everyone.  Besides desiring a slightly sweeter scent, the lotion was a hit.  Nassim's Baby Body Lotion has worked great for my toddlers and did its job well.

The final Nassim Naturals product that I tried was the Yummilicious Cocoa Lip Balm.  While the Ouchie Diaper Balm was my favorite Nassim product, the Yummilicious Cocoa Lip Balm was way up there!  This lip balm was heavenly.  The smell is delicious (shea butter and organic cocoa butter) and I kept licking my lips!  Yummilicious Cocoa Lip Balm is in a small, compact container, so it's perfect for your make-up bag and purse.  It would even fit conveniently in your pocket!  I've been using the Yummilicious Cocoa Lip Balm throughout the day to keep my lips moist as the winter air here has been exceptionally dry.  No chapped lips here!

If you want to try some of Nassim's awesome, natural products, then visit their web site where you can purchase from their fine line of baby care and personal care products.  Nassim Naturals is currently offering free standard shipping on orders within Canada and the USA.  Visit their web site for more information!  Of course, you could always enter a giveaway for an opportunity to try TWO of the Nassim Naturals products.  Hip, hip hooray for giveaways!

So, let's get to the fun part!  Nassim Naturals is graciously giving one lucky winner TWO Nassim Naturals products of the winner's choice!  Simply follow the easy Rafflecopter instructions below! There are TWO MANDATORY entries and the other entries are extras for more chances to win!  This giveaway will run Saturday, February 25, 2012 until Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 12:01AM EST. Dabbling In Dapple!

Have you heard of Dapple?  If not, well, you're in for an eco-friendly, non-toxic treat.  Dapple is a line of natural-based cleaning products.  Dapple products are baby-safe and baby-specific using non-toxic ingredients found in nature that are also proven to tackle unique baby cleaning challenges, from dried milk on bottles to sticky fingerprints on toys.  Truth is, there are many unnecessary toxins and yucky, nasty chemicals in everyday products, especially products for our children.  Several name-brand cleaning products contain chemicals that can flare up allergies and asthma symptoms.  I know this firsthand as I had to quit using many cleaning products because I fell victim to wheezing, coughing, sneezing and itchy, red, watery eyes.  If these cleaning products caused me so many problems, just think of the problems they can cause for our children, especially in infants and toddlers.  What makes Dapple's line so amazing is that their products are all-natural and are free of fragrances, parabens, phthalates, SLS, SLES, 1,4-dioxane & dyes.  You also don't have to worry about any leftover chemical, toxic residue.  You're left with zero toxins, just good clean fun.

So, last month I was introduced to Dapple and I've had the opportunity to use a few Dapple Baby products.  Dapple Baby sent me three products to try: Dapple Fragrance-Free Liquid Dish Soap, Dapple Baby Surface Wipes and Dapple Baby Fragrance-Free Laundry Detergent.  Dapple's full product line also includes: Dapple Baby Surface Cleaner, Dapple Baby Automatic Dishwasher Gel and Pacifier Wipes.

I've been using the Dapple Fragrance-Free Liquid Dish Soap and have loved it.  It features award-winning green technology to target milk/formula residue and baking soda to combat odor.  Dapple Fragrance-Free Liquid Dish Soap rinses quickly and is made with all-natural ingredients.   It is also free of phthalates, parabens, SLS, SLES, and dyes.  Dapple Fragrance-Free Liquid Dish Soap works great for cleaning pacifiers, bottles, breast pump accessories, sippy cups plus all of your other plates, silverware, utensils and cups.  Last Sunday, I made a yummy pot roast for dinner.  I used the Dapple Fragrance-Free Liquid Dish Soap for hand-washing my Dutch Oven and it cleaned up quite nicely.  While crafted for gently, yet effectively cleaning your baby's bottle, it's a great fit for the entire family.

I've also been using Dapple Baby Surface Wipes.  Ordinarily, I don't use store-bought wipes to clean.  Store-bought cleaning wipes simply add more waste and are usually laden with chemicals.  Dapple Baby Surface Wipes are totally a different story though as they're an all-natural cleaning solution and are biodegradable.  Like the other Dapple products, Dapple Baby Surface Wipes are free of phthalates, parabens, SLS, SLES, and dyes.  My favorite use for these wipes is using them to wipe my little boys' high chairs and bibs.  They make for a quick and easy clean-up.  From high chairs, toys and countertops and everything in between, you can use these wipes for almost anything.  I'd recommend having a tub in your car for messy clean-ups on the go.  I always like being prepared for the unexpected and expected.  See, having two little boys under three years-old, I know to always expect a mess!

The last Dapple product that I've been using is the Dapple Baby Fragrance-Free Laundry Detergent.  Being a cloth diapering momma, I only use laundry detergents that are cloth diaper-safe.  When I say, "cloth diaper-safe," that means that the laundry detergent is free of color brighteners and fabric softeners.  I'm proud to say, that Dapple Baby Fragrance-Free Laundry Detergent is cloth diaper-safe.  That said, regardless of which cloth diaper-safe detergent you use, you should always double rinse when washing your cloth diapers.  Dapple Baby Fragrance-Free Laundry Detergent is made with ultra-mild ingredients, is hypoallergenic and fragrance-free.  It's also an ideal choice for newborns, toddlers, and children with eczema.  Worth mentioning, Dapple Baby Fragrance-Free Laundry Detergent works with HE and non-HE washing machines.  I've used Dapple Baby Fragrance-Free Laundry Detergent for cleaning cloth diapers, my little boys' clothes, bed linens, towels and the dirtiest bundle of all... my husband's work clothes.  My husband does concrete work (pool decks, patios, driveways, decorative concrete interior flooring), so his work clothes can get pretty messy and dirty.  I must say, the Dapple Detergent did a decent job, even with extra grungy clothes.  So, while Dapple's products are specifically tailored for baby, they really work for everyone in the family!

A fun little side-note, is that Dapple was just featured on the Martha Stewart Living Show on Friday, February 17, 2012!  Baby gear guru, Jamie Grayson (AKA TheBabyGuyNYC) featured the Dapple Clean-Up Kit on the famous, much anticipated "Baby Shower Show."  Dapple Clean-Up Kit includes four of Dapple's most popular products: Dapple Baby Bottle & Dish Liquid, Toy & Surface Cleaner Spray, Toy & Surface Cleaner Wipes and Travel Pack, plus a free cleaning cloth.

If you would like to try Dapple for yourself, visit their web site to check for a retailer near you and pick up some of Dapple's awesome cleaning products.  Or you could always enter a GIVEAWAY!  Hip, hip hooray!

So, let's get to the fun part!  One lucky reader will win the Dapple Clean-Up Kit.  Simply follow the easy Rafflecopter instructions below! There are TWO MANDATORY entries and the other entries are extras for more chances to win! This giveaway will run Monday, February 20, 2012 until Monday, March 5, 2012 at 12:01AM EST. The winner will be randomly chosen via Rafflecopter and announced on  March 5th.  The winner will be notified by e-mail and will have 48 hours to respond and confirm their prize, otherwise, a new winner will be chosen. Good luck! Open to US only.

Oh, For The Love Of Fluff.

My latest giveaway is for a copy of Kelly Wels' Changing Diapers: The Hip Mom's Guide To Modern Cloth Diapering book AND a $15 Gift Certificate to Kelly's Closet.  So, it's only fitting that I share this awesome chart, "Are Cloth Diapers Really Better Than Throwaways?"  The chart was created by AppleCheeks and I discovered it yesterday on Facebook.  I thought it was an amazing side-by-side comparison of using cloth diapers versus throwaway/disposable diapers.  It's clear, concise and easy to read!  If you're on the fence about using cloth diapers, maybe this chart may help you decide.  You really should just take a dive in the "fluffy pool."  The water is fine...

"Changing Diapers" Book Giveaway!

Recently, I held a giveaway for Kelly Wels' book, Changing Diapers: The Hip Mom's Guide To Modern Cloth Diapering.  The response to the giveaway was amazing.  Some of you who entered that giveaway were cloth diaper newbies, some of you were fluffy pros and others of you were planning on cloth diapering your soon-to-be little bundle(s) of joy.  Fact is, all of you were excited at the opportunity to win a copy of this book.  So, I simply couldn't resist having another giveaway for the Changing Diapers: The Hip Mom's Guide To Modern Cloth Diapering book.  I love sharing with other parents how truly easy, affordable, convenient and fun cloth diapering can be!

The Changing Diapers book is a 215 page easy to read book on modern cloth diapering.  Let's face it, today's cloth diapers have come a long way since your grandma's cloth diapers.  Heck, they've come a long way since your mom's cloth diapers.  My mother-in-law cloth diapered my brother-n-law, my husband's younger brother, some 20+ years ago.  So, those are the cloth diapers that my husband remembers and when I asked him about cloth diapering, his answer was a resounding, "NO WAY!"  Then, fate stepped in, and after meeting Jennifer Labit, cloth diaper entrepreneur extraordinaire, I was blessed with the opportunity to try some fabulous bumGenius diapers from the "Tiny Socialite" collection designed by Chelsea Perry.  I mean, how adorable are those diapers?  Thus, my fluff obsession began and after six months, I've completely fallen in love with cloth diapering.  Oh, and more importantly, my husband loves cloth diapering now, too.

So, let's get to the real fun part!  This giveaway is for a copy of Kelly Wels' Changing Diapers: The Hip Mom's Guide To Modern Cloth Diapering book AND a $15 Gift Certificate to Kelly's Closet.

Simply
follow the easy Rafflecopter instructions below!  There are TWO MANDATORY entries and the other entries are extras for more chances to win!  This giveaway will run Saturday, February 18, 2012 until Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 12:01AM EST.  The winner will be randomly chosen via Rafflecopter and announced on February 28th.  The winner will be notified by e-mail and will have 24 hours to respond and confirm their prize, otherwise, a new winner will be chosen.  Good luck!  Open to US only.

Teething Woes.

TEETHING.  Hearing that one word makes many parents cringe.  With my oldest little boy, teething was hardly an issue.  Besides the sea of drool pouring from his cute little mouth, teething didn't seems to bother him one bit.  I always made sure he had a bib on as there's just something about "teething drool" that can be quite irritating on a baby's skin and of course the "teething drool" can leave their onesies completely soaked.  Now, teething for my youngest was quite the different story.  Besides the familiar sea of drool and constant bib-wearing, there were countless sleepless nights, almost non-existent naps and an extremely cranky, irritable baby.  I felt so bad for my youngest, as he had an extremely difficult time when he was teething.  Oh, and when I say cranky baby, I really should include cranky mommy in there, too.  Know the feeling?  So, if you have a little one in the same boat, I have picked up a couple of golden nuggets a long the way that I would like to share.

Imade Credit

If you would like to approach teething in a more natural, homeopathic way, then you should check out Hyland's Teething Tablets.  Hyland’s Baby Teething Tablets are small, “soft” tablets that dissolve instantly in your baby's mouth upon contact with saliva. You just need to put the tablets in your child’s mouth and they will dissolve, bringing much needed relief to your little one's achy mouth and gums.  Hyland's recommends dissolving 2 to 3 tablets under the tongue or in a teaspoon of water, 4 times per day.  For my household, these were a lifesaver while my youngest was teething and really seemed to sooth my little one's teething woes.  You can purchase Hyland's Teething Tablets at most major retailers nationwide.

One day as I was perusing Earth Mama Angel Baby's Facebook page, I came across a posting where a momma was asking for some advice about soothing a teething baby.  One momma mentioned soaking a baby wash cloth in Earth Mama's Organic Peaceful Mama Tea and then letting the teething baby suck on the saturated wash cloth.  Of course, watch the temperature of the water when preparing the tea.  A cooler temperature may be more soothing to baby's gums, so you'll want to wait for the tea to adequately cool.  You can always test the temperature by putting a droplet on the inside of your wrist.  I loved this remedy and though that this was simply a brilliant idea as ALL of Earth Mama Angel Baby's products, teas included, are organic, zero-toxins, vegan and cruelty-free.  Organic Peaceful Mama Tea always calms me and helps me relax after a long day, so it would only make sense that this organic goodness could help sooth a cranky teething baby.  To find a retailer near you, click here.

Refrigerated teething rings and other teethers are always helpful and soothing.  Of course, using mesh feeders with an ice cube or with a bit of frozen fruit can help provide some much needed relief, too.  As far as mesh feeders go, I always liked the Baby Safe Feeder which is available at Babies 'R Us and retails for approximately $11.99.

So, do you have the teething woes?  How do you help soothe your little one's poor gums when he/she is teething?

For The Love Of Wool Dryer Balls.

I have recently been using wool dryer balls in lieu of fabric softener sheets.  I guess you could say that I've been taking a more "green" approach to my laundry routine.  Plus, if I can save some "green" in the process, then it's a win-win situation, I think!  I first discovered wool dryer balls at my local cloth diaper store.  I've been curious ever since, so I finally decided to take the plunge and invest in a few.  In case you're unfamiliar with using wool dryer balls, they are a natural solution for softening your clothes without harsh, yucky chemicals.  Made completely from wool, they help your clothes and cloth diapers (if you're a lover of the fluff) tumble dry softly, and reduce the drying time by up to half.

So, I bought five wool dryer balls from two local moms in the Tulsa-area.  I'm all about supporting local businesses, so I was thrilled to purchase from Shauna with Bouncing Woolies and Somer with SomerKnits.  Now, I mentioned that I had five wool dryer balls, but actually, one has been MIA for sometime.  I guess the "sock-eating monster" from the dryer made quick works of that poor dryer ball.  Now, Somer with SomerKnits mentioned placing the wool dryer balls in a hosiery/lingerie bag to keep them together.  Otherwise, some of the dryer balls will get caught in sleeves, pants legs and tangled up in other laundry items.  So, to keep your sanity, maybe keeping the wool dryer balls together in a hosiery/lingerie bag is the way to go!

Since we're in the middle of winter, the air tends to be really dry.  The furnace at my house seems to run quite a bit, so the air seems extra dry and static electricity seems to be running rapid.  Shauna with Bouncing Woolies recommended dampening the wool dryer balls if they appear to be "staticy" and then simply toss them back in the dryer.

If you're the crafty type and have a little free time, I found an in-depth tutorial on making your own dryer balls.  If you whip up some, let me know how it goes!  Or you can be like this "chic momma" and purchase some of your own wool dryer balls from the mommas at Bouncing Woolies and SomerKnits!

Here's an extra little nugget for you.  Simply adding 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar to the rinse cycle of your wash will also soften your clothes and help reduce static cling.   Plus, vinegar whitens, deodorizes and disinfects.  Wait.   I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, "But won't my clothes smell like a salad dressing?"   Now, when I clean with vinegar, yes, there's a smell of vinegar.   However, the smell dissipates quickly and then my home just smells clean. T he same will apply to your clothing.   At first, your washing machine will smell of vinegar, but again, the smell will dissipate and your clothing will smell just clean.   If you want to smell flowers and other garden delights, go pick some fresh flowers and herbs!

So, how many of you use wool dryer balls?  Do you have a favorite brand?  Do any of you use vinegar in your laundry routines?

Wipe Bits, Anyone?

Have you ever heard of wipe bits?  Up until recently I had never heard of them.  I'm in a cloth diaper group page on Facebook and have heard lots of mommas talk about wipe bits.  Wipe bits were generally used in the same sentence as cloth wipes, so I naturally assumed the two were related somehow.  When I received my bumGenius Freetime order in the mail from Everything Birth last week, the company included samples of Ruby Moon Laundry Detergent and Ruby Moon Wipe Bits.  OK, so now I had to finally bite the bullet and ask, "what are wipe bits?  What do I use them for?  How do I use them?"  Even though I've been cloth diapering for about 6 months now, I still consider myself a cloth diaper newbie.  Well, I received a response to my question pretty fast.  Another momma answered, " Put 1 wipe bit cube in 1 cup of hot water.  The wipe bit will dissolve.  Once the mixture is cooled, use the mixture as your wipe cleanser solution."  Excellent!  Another wipe cleanser solution!  You see, I've been using baby wash and baby oil for my wipe cleanser solution and I have loved it.  Of course, I always like learning new things and finding new cloth diaper products, so wipe bits are an exciting new find for me.

I'm looking forward to using the Ruby Moon Wipe Bits.  The Ruby Moon Wipe Bits are made from goats milk and are lightly scented of oatmeal milk and honey.  The wipe bits retail for $5.95.

Wipe BitsA local mom, The Peaceful Housewife, happens to be a member of the same cloth diaper group Facebook page.  She also makes wipe bits, so I'm hoping to try her brand of wipe bits soon!  Her wipe bits are made from shea butter soap and retail for $4.50.

So, do you use wipe bits?  If so, do you have a favorite brand?  Or do you make your own?
